Money in Australia

The currency used in Australia is the Australian Dollar ($AUD).

Traveller's cheques are widely accepted in Australia. Currency exchange facilities are available at international airports and banks are generally open Monday-Friday 9.00am-4.00pm. Please note that some banks charge a small fee for cashing travellers cheques.

Major credit cards are also widely accepted with the most common being MasterCard, Visa, American Express and their affiliates.

Cirrus and Maestro are used in Australia, however you are best to check with your bank on which regions your account can be used in.
